Building & Environmental Technology

Research

The research at the department covers a broad spectrum of fundamental and applied issues in the built society, the physical infrastructure and the environment.

One general focus area at LTH is building technology, where the challenges are to improve productivity, reduce energy consumption, increase quality and reduce life cycle costs.

Another challenge for society is to handle the consequences of future climate changes as well as other environmental threats. Understanding physical processes in coastal zones, urban areas and hydrological contexts are crucial.

The spread of pollution agents with water is a key factor for environmental impact.

The modern society is getting more and more vulnerable. Safety against fire and other extreme events as well as risk management are fields well covered by the competence at the department.
